The SS6000 is a stainless steel single-row deep-groove ball bearing. Its external dimensions are identical to those of a standard 6000-series bearing made of bearing steel; the key difference is its rust-resistant material. It is also frequently designated as S6000 or W6000 and belongs to the 6000 "light" series.
Two primary materials are commonly used:
SUS440C (9Cr18): The most common choice. It offers high hardness after quenching, superior load-bearing capacity, and exhibits weak magnetism. It is suitable for humid or freshwater environments, such as in food processing machinery, fishing gear, and pumps or valves.
SUS316: Non-magnetic with excellent resistance to acid and alkali corrosion. However, it has lower hardness, a lower load-bearing capacity, and a higher cost. It is ideal for use in seawater, chemical processing, or highly corrosive environments.
Cage options include 304 stainless steel (stamped) or PA66 nylon. "ZZ" dust shields are typically made of 304 stainless steel, while "2RS" seals consist of rubber contact seals.
Seal/Shield Suffixes
Open (no suffix): No dust shields; allows for easy regreasing, but offers poor dust protection.
ZZ: Metal dust shields on both sides (non-contact; provides dust protection but is not waterproof).
2RS: Rubber seals on both sides (contact-type; provides both water and dust protection, suitable for wash-down environments).
Load Capacity and Characteristics
Capable of supporting radial loads and moderate bidirectional axial loads.
Features low friction, high rotational speed, low noise, and simple installation.
Compared to standard chrome-steel 6000 bearings: Offers superior rust resistance, though the rated load capacity is slightly lower; not suitable for heavy-duty applications.
Typical Applications
Used in environments requiring rust resistance, such as food processing equipment, beverage filling machines, medical instruments, fishing gear, water pumps, cleaning equipment, small marine equipment, automated systems in humid environments, and optical instruments.
Quick Selection Guide
For environments with water, moisture, or a need for general rust resistance → 440C Stainless Steel 6000ZZ / 2RS (best value)
For exposure to seawater, acids/alkalis, or requirements for non-magnetic properties → 316 Stainless Steel 6000
For heavy-load applications, prioritize standard bearing steel 6000
